Individual Counseling
Individual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) is a process where clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Individual therapy may be short-term (focusing on immediate issues) or long-term (delving into more complex problems). The number of sessions and the frequency of appointments depends on the individual’s situation and the recommendations of the therapist. This type of therapy may be used in conjunction with other types of mental and behavioral health treatment, such as family therapy or substance abuse counseling.

DBT’s main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specific type of therapy that helps your brain process and release traumatic memories using eye movement. EMDR is based on the theory that traumatic events aren’t properly processed in the brain when they happen. Therefore, the experience continues to affect us with nightmares, flashbacks, and feelings of the trauma happening again long after the actual trauma is over. EMDR sessions last between 45 and 60 minutes and is individualized.
When you are reminded of the trauma, your brain and body respond as if it’s happening all over again. That is because the brain is not able to tell the difference between the past and the present. This is where EMDR comes and helps you reprocess the trauma in a way that will allow you to remember the traumatic events without experiencing the intense, emotional reactions that characterize post-traumatic stress.
