Substance Use and Addictions Counseling
What is substance use & addictions counseling?
Substance use and addictions counseling is a specialized type of therapy that helps individuals who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, or other addictive behaviors such as gambling, gaming, or compulsive habits. The goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to explore challenges, understand the role substances or behaviors play in your life, and develop healthier coping skills.
Through counseling, clients learn:
-
How to identify triggers and patterns that contribute to substance use or addictive behaviors
-
Tools for managing cravings and preventing relapse
-
Healthier ways to cope with stress, emotions, and life changes
-
How to repair and strengthen relationships impacted by addiction
This type of counseling meets people where they are—whether they’re ready to stop completely, reduce use, or simply explore their relationship with substances. It’s not about judgment or pressure, but about supporting you in making meaningful changes that improve your health and quality of life.
What types of addictions do you treat?
Our counselor specializes in substance use (alcohol, prescription medications, illicit drugs) as well as behavioral addictions such as gambling, gaming, or compulsive behaviors.
Do I have to stop use before starting counseling?
No. Many clients begin counseling while still struggling with use. Together, we create a plan that meets you where you are and helps you move toward your goals at your own pace.
How is counseling for substance use different from regular therapy?
Our substance use counseling is tailored specifically to address the challenges of addiction. It includes relapse prevention strategies, coping skills, motivational interviewing, and evidence-based techniques to support recovery.
Can I still see my current therapist if I come here for substance use counseling?
Yes. You can continue working with your current therapist for other issues while also meeting with our substance use specialist for addiction-related concerns.
How long will I need counseling?
Every client’s journey is different. Some people attend short-term counseling to address immediate concerns, while others benefit from ongoing support. Together, you and your counselor will determine what’s best for you.
Do you offer group therapy or only individual sessions?
We provide individual counseling with Bea, our addictions specialist. For more structured support, you may also consider our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which includes group sessions.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is protected by law. We will not share your information without your consent, except in cases required by law (such as safety concerns).
